Welcome to the Canterbury Historic Houses Conservation Trust Web Site. The Trust exists to encourage the conservation of heritage houses in the Canterbury area, working with owners to provide encouragement, relevant advice, and assistance in the conservation process.
It has been our experience that, all too often, owners may either not
consider their house 'worthy' or appreciate what the significance of
their house might be on its own, or in a streetscape context. In that
we can assist with expert opinion and guidance.
Also, it may be that the owner simply does not know how to best to begin a conservation task, especially when the intention may be to 'live in the house more comfortably'. Again, in that area we can assist.
Then again, the Trust has received many messages of frustration at the loss of heritage houses from owners fearful that there is no way to stop developers destroying their home after it is sold...in this we can most certainly assist with the preparation of protective Heritage Covenants, these providing very effective legal protection to the house and grounds in perpetuity...and at a minimal price.
Ask us for help...that is what the Trust does best!! |
